I commute from Carbondale to Aspen every day. Why are the left lanes full of slow traffic (under the posted speed) from Carbondale to Basalt in the morning and from Basalt to Carbondale every afternoon? Why do drivers who are not passing remain in the left lane even though they are in violation of Colorado law when they are in the 65 mph zone between El Jebel and Carbondale? Why do nonpassing drivers remain in the left lane between Basalt and Aspen before or after the posted HOV time of 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday only?
Why do drivers insist on using the left lane between the ABC and Owl Creek road even though the right lane is all but empty after 9 a.m.? Why do drivers aggressively (even violently) deny traffic merging from the right lane at that same intersection after 9 a.m.? Why do drivers refuse to allow someone to merge from the left lane in front of the Hickory House at any time during the day? Why do some of these same drivers write letters to the Aspen times about HOV abuses? Ignorance comes to mind …
