Why vote?

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:He – a staunch Republican with a self-satisfied smile and a cowboy hat – and I – a gray-haired lifelong Democrat hawking a petition against gas drilling in our valley – almost came to blows the other day in the El Jebel City Market parking lot over our respective views on the role of the United States in the world, the importance of nature, the nature of marriage, etc., etc.No problem with getting either of us to the polls Nov. 2. He’ll vote for Bush, and I’ll cancel his vote with mine for Kerry. But for those of you who don’t feel so committed, or who think the two parties are too much alike, or don’t want to bother with voting, please take a few minutes to look at the Web site http://www.wakeupnow81623.org, where young people in the valley express themselves on the subject “Why Vote?” with a video, cartoons and essays. They just might make you reconsider.Ann MacLeodBasalt
