Whitsitt for mayor

Dear Editor:

Jacque Whitsitt is the right person for mayor. She is a compassionate supporter of what makes Basalt so special. Growth is usually the main issue when discussing politics in the Roaring Fork Valley, but with the new reality after the recession, we need people who will engage the community to bring sustainability to future development. Jacque will engage the community to find what balance is needed to provide sustainable development but will always strive to maintain the special small-town feel that Basalt residents cherish.

Her work providing trails and open space is outstanding, and solving the critical issue of a safer more pedestrian friendly crossing of Highway 82 is a top priority for her.

She also has proven that she is a huge supporter of our local schools with her work on the ballot issue last fall. Supporting schools in Basalt is critical for a town to be successful in attracting families to move to Basalt.

Being mayor is so much more than leading Town Council meetings. Jacque has proven with her decades of volunteering and being on elected boards that she has the energy and willingness to engage in all aspects of being mayor.

I encourage you all to vote for Jacque for mayor, and I am also voting for Rob Leavitt for Town Council for all of the same reasons I support Jacque.

Gary Tennenbaum and Suzanne Wolff
