Whitsitt all the way

Dear Editor:

Let’s vote for Jacque as our new mayor of Basalt!

I’ve known Jacque for many years as her subordinate, protege and peer:

• Jacque was a Basalt trustee back when I was a volunteer on the Basalt Planning and Zoning Commission, and I always felt that she was truly interested in our perspective and gave us the benefit of the doubt when it came to our recommendations.

• Jacque later mentored me with my successful Basalt trustee election campaign and with my role on the Roaring Fork Transportation board. Jacque encouraged and backed me to make the jump from planning and zoning commissioner to elected official – the same path Bill Maron’s taking in this election, so let’s vote for him, too. On the RFTA board, I was able to see her shine and lead the way in exploring and ultimately embracing policy governance principals, which in my opinion all boards should consider adopting.

• Jacque helped me and others found the local nonprofit Mision: Communidad, whose vision was to bridge the cultural divide between Anglos and Latinos with a bilingual Spanish/English newspaper.

I’m glad that Jacque’s been on my team all these years. And I’m excited about Basalt’s future with her leadership as mayor.
