Which Eagle for Eagle County?
The Aspen Times
Aspen, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY ” Eagle County government is going through somewhat of an identity crisis.
Constituents are about evenly split over whether to keep the county’s primary existing logo or go for a new one. In an online poll, 808 votes were cast in favor of the old logo, which depicts an outstretched eagle preparing for a landing, with a mountain and the sun in the background.
But 784 folks selected a change to the new logo, which features an iconic eagle with a snow-packed peak. An audit showed there were 395 repeat votes, which were thrown out.
The county launched a “rebranding effort” in 2007 after it was discovered that as many as five variations of the old logo were in use by different departments. The primary logo has four colors and lots of detail. The proposed logo is simpler and only two colors.
Eagle County officials have solicited opinions on the alternatives via the survey, various focus groups and man-on-the-street interviews. The three county commissioners will review the public input before selecting a logo. The decision could be made as soon as Tuesday.
If the new logo is selected, the county will continue to use items such as letterhead with the old logo until it runs out. There won’t be any waste by throwing out old items just because of the logo.
Eagle County stretches from Gypsum to Vail along the Interstate 70 corridor, but also encompasses a sliver of the Roaring Fork Valley in the county’s southeast corner, including El Jebel and part of Basalt.
