• The city of Aspen’s real estate transfer tax collections continue to lag behind 2015. Through April, the tax that benefits the affordable-housing program generated $1.7 million, down 51 percent from the first four months of 2015, which put $3.4 million into the city coffers. The Wheeler Opera House portion of the tax drew $883,883 from January through April, down 54 percent from $1.9 million collected during the same period last year. The figures were released last week by the city’s Finance Department.
• Castle Creek-based MW Golden Constructors was recently awarded a preconstruction service contract for the $2.9 million renovation of Aspen Country Inn, a 40-unit affordable-housing complex for seniors located at 38996 Highway 82.
The project will include a remodel of 40 interior units, common-area remodels, roof repair and replacement and site-related scope, according to a company statement.
Preconstruction is set to begin Monday.
• Rowland+Broughton Architecture/Urban Design/Interior Design was behind the architecture and interior design for the new 7,800-square-foot Matsuhisa Denver, which is located in Cherry Creek.
The new restaurant recently was opened by Aspen resident Michael Goldberg and chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, who also own and operate the Aspen and Vail restaurants.
