What’s it to boo? A Halloween schedule of events
Halloween is the locals’ holiday in Aspen, as the mostly tourist-free resort town plays host to the biggest annual offseason party of the year. Whether you’re trick-or-treating with the kids in the North Forty or getting sloppy with the grown-ups at the Caribou Club as the members-only establishment throws open its doors to the public, there’s something for everybody in a costume during Halloween in Aspen.
Even though this favorite haunted holiday falls on a Tuesday this year, there is no need to boo, many places in and around Aspen are hosting parties and events all weekend, meaning you have plenty of opportunities to join in on the spooky fun. (Please note this is not a comprehensive list.)
Eat Your Face Off | Maru
From 5 to 10 p.m., you can get 50 percent off your bill since the restaurant will be closing down for a few weeks in the offseason to get ready for winter. DJFolami starts spinning beats at 10 p.m.
Local’s Appreciation Night | Justice Snow’s
Nope, this isn’t a trick, it’s a treat for the locals. The night’s soundtrack will be provided by three local DJs — Sublog, Lo_G and Knuttybird — and the party runs from 8 p.m to midnight.
Mi Chola Fiesta | Mi Chola
From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., this no cover party features DJ Dr. Seano. If you show up early, from 8 to 9 p.m., Mi Chola promises the tequila will be flowing in the form of shots from Roca Patron.
Closing party | Aspen Brewing Co.
While they aren’t throwing a Halloween-specific party, we’d be remis to not include Aspen Brewing Co. on this list. With their lease up on Oct. 31, it’s important to send the brewery off right with a party all weekend long. Along with beer specials, a new brew is being released called Excess in Moderation.
Cemetary tour | Aspen Walking Tours
Aspen Walking Tours is giving spooky tours of Ute Cemetery over the weekend for $35.
Dance Your Ass Off Halloween Bash | The Temporary
If you find yourself in Willits on Saturday, head on over to The Temporary at 7:30 p.m. to enjoy “all things Halloween.” There is a cover charge of $12 for the shindig, which features a DJ, drink specials at the bar and a costume contest with prizes.
Halloween Happening | Crystal River Elementary School
From 1 to 4 p.m. enjoy a family-friendly Halloween carnival at Crystal River. There will be bounce houses, food for purchase and a $12 wristband will get you unlimited games.
KDNK’s Halloween Dance Party | Third Street Center
There is lots of fun to be had at this community access radio benefit disguised as a Halloween party. It’s a 21-and-older party featuring drink specials, barbecue from Slow Groovin’, music from The Davenports, a bake sale, costume contest and free photo booth. Cover charge is $20 and the event goes from 6 to 11 p.m.
Halloween Bash | The Black Nugget
According to the invite, costumes are a must at this bash featuring The Habits onstage all night. There is no cover, but you’ve got to be 21 and older to attend. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Zombie Dance Event | Carbondale Branch Library
Carbondale Branch Library hosts a zombie dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” at 4 p.m. Anyone who knows the dance and wants to participate is asked to come at 3:30 p.m. in full makeup and costume.
Mad Hatter Halloween Bash | Batch at Roaring Fork Beer Co.
A $10 cover will get you one Roaring Fork beer of your choice, they are unveiling a new “tea party beer” collaboration with Basalt-based tea company Two Leaves and a Bud, and access to a dessert bar by the Roaring Spoon. Make sure to dress to impress as there will be a costume contest at 10 p.m with prizes.
Scary-oke | Ryno’s
It’s a Halloween twist on this Monday night tradition at Ryno’s with Sandman starting at 9 p.m.
The Spazmatics | Belly Up
Belly Up is ground zero this year, as the club hosts the ’80s cover band the Spazmatics on Halloween night and stages its annual costume contest. Prizes range from $250 in Belly Up tickets for third place to $500 cash and $500 in tickets for first. The costume contest is scheduled to start at 11:15 p.m. between two Spazmatics sets, so don’t be late. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $40 for reserved seats.
Halloween fun | Hooch
Drink specials, a costume contest and plenty of fun can be found at this basement bar on Halloween.
The Boo! Bash | Aspen Fire Department
Returning this year to be hosted at the Aspen Fire Department from 3 to 5 p.m. on Halloween, the Boo Bash features kid-friendly food, games and art projects.
Halloween Party | Caribou Club
It’s the one night a year Caribou opens its doors to non-members, and it’s always a raucous good time on the dance floor. Entry is free, but make sure you are in costume.
Halloween party | Heather’s Savory Pies & Tapas Bar
This downtown Basalt eatery is serving up dinner with a side of spook. The party goes from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with “witches brew” drink specials and judging for the costume competition starts at 10:30 with prizes for first, second and third place.
Boo!-Grass Halloween | Stubbies Sports Bar
