What would Jesus do?

Dear Editor:

The Christmas holiday season is upon us, and the giant, plastic, luminous, bobbing and rotating candy canes, elves, Santa on sleighs, feeding deer and the like have begun appearing. The once relaxing night sky is being cut with blinding, obnoxious outdoor lights. No doubt the owners of these lights have nothing but goodwill toward all men on their minds when they stage these scenes and string each light. But me ” I want to scream!

To me these are symbols of commercialism and blatant, conspicuous energy waste and good intentions gone bad. To all you light lovers, I applaud your intentions and ask that you consider beginning a new tradition of manifesting your loving intentions not with bright, eye squinting, fossil-fuel consuming lights, but in other more lovely, less obtrusive ways.
