What we can all agree on

Dear Editor:I write in support of Question No. 2 on the ballot of the upcoming May 8 municipal election in Aspen. Unlike many other contentious issues facing the community, this ballot measure is uncontested and deserves unanimous support from all voters. If approved, this land-swap measure will authorize the conveyance to the City of Aspen of a land parcel of 87,120 square feet, which would then be deeded to the Aspen Valley Land Trust for open space purposes and extension of pedestrian trails. In exchange, the City of Aspen will convey the Little Cloud Subdivision HOA a sliver of land of only 850 square feet, which will be deed-restricted and limited to use for rockfall and avalanche mitigation. This is a “win-win” referendum for everyone, and it will substantially benefit the people of Aspen as well as visitors and others in the community. No taxes will be levied to effectuate this measure. There is no down side. In fact, the people of Aspen will receive 100 times the square footage of land in the form of open space that is swapped. Please vote yes on Question No. 2. Thank you.Chris BryanAspen
