Wellness Day a success
The Aspen Middle School Physical Education and Health Department put on a Wellness Day for the entire student and staff population on Wednesday, Oct. 20.
The philosophy behind the event was to create an opportunity for students to participate in educational workshops on healthier living. We had 14 presenters, nine community members and five staff members who spent the day teaching different workshops to our students.
We would like to thank the following health professionals for donating their entire day to provide great health information to our students: Kelly Locke with Locke Family Medicine, Kelly Keefe from the Aspen to Parachute Dental Health Coalition, Heather Starr and Dance Progressions, Betty Hoops, Jugglin’ Jammin’ Jim, Marc Romero with Adaptive Education, Sandy Holmes with Aspen Valley Hospital, sports psychologist Diana McNab and Aspen Crossfit.
We would also like to thank the following school resource officers, police department officers and sheriff’s department officers for their volunteer time with the Self Image/Self Defense workshop: Tina Schairer, Paul Hufnagle, Jesse Steindler, Casey Ward, Rick Magnuson, Marcin Debski and Assistant Chief Linda Consuegra.
Clark’s Market donated fresh fruit for the students at the end of the race, and Paradise Bakery donated muffins for the presenters. It was an interactive and fun-filled day that could not have been possible without the support of these dedicated professionals.
