Well treated by Skico
Dear Editor:There is no “little guy” in the Aspen Skiing Co. New pros are extremely valuable to the core of the Skico, in terms of creating value to guests and in terms of maintaining strong and talented schools. The Skico has successful and impressive incentive programs in place to bring employees along, nurture and give them opportunities to become great teachers. Every pro has a chance to quickly and easily move up in pay and experience. • A guest can request a pro for a private lesson. Once a pro is requested, there is great financial opportunity. After just 12 days of work, a rookie pro makes $119/day on a request private lesson. An experienced pro makes $201/day. After 37 days of work, a rookie pro makes $169/day on a request private lesson. An experienced pro makes $260/day. After 62 days of work, a rookie pro makes $222/day on a request private lesson. An experienced pro makes $305/day. After 75 days of work, a rookie pro makes $242/day on a request private lesson. An experienced pro makes $316/day.• The Skico spends approximately $450,000 each season to train pros. This training is an investment by the Skico to ensure that our schools have the “best-trained pros in the industry.” Training covers aspects of: building better business, creating relationships, being better skiers/riders and being better teachers. And they pay you to take the training! • The majority of Skico’s employee housing goes to entry-level employees, including pros. Rent is set at approximately one-third of an entry-level employee’s gross monthly pay. • All Skico employees are eligible for discounts of up to 40 percent off of wholesale on hard goods (clothing, goggles, ski and snowboard gear, etc.) at all 4-Mountain Sports and D & E stores all season long.• All Skico employees are eligible for discounts of up to 40 percent on food at all Skico restaurants, on or off mountain.• All Skico employees are eligible to sign up for Skico health insurance right away.• The Skico offers a matched 401K plan to all employees after their first year of work. • All Skico employees get a season pass. After a year (or full season) of work, employees can get season passes for significant others and family members.Just a small part of the Skico’s conscientious efforts to support their employees and the community.Megan Harveyski pro, Aspen Skiing Co.
