Weiss: Why I’m running

Dear Editor:I want to thank The Aspen Times and the Aspen Daily News for their articles regarding my candidacy for City Council. However, I need to make three corrections regarding the facts of my resume. First, I served on the Villas HOA from 1999 until 2005, when my family moved to a home in the Cemetery Lane neighborhood. Second, I ran for City Council in 2003 and 2005; not 2009 as stated in the Aspen Daily News. Finally, although I originally moved to Aspen in 1974, I have not lived here continuously since then. For several years in-between I lived in Boulder and New York. My wife and I bought a condo at Hunter Creek in 1987, and we have lived and worked in Aspen continuously since 1992.I also wanted to say to the community that after more than a decade of serving on task forces, commissions and boards, I have no alliances. I am my own man and I think for myself. While at Planning & Zoning during the past four years, I have agreed with each of my fellow commissioners and staff, and disagreed just as often. I also have agreed and disagreed on the issues with each member of City Council, and yet have tremendous respect for their passionate debates.I am running for City Council to offer the community an independent voice. I am not afraid to make difficult decisions, which I base on what’s best for the community and not based on what will secure an election bid. Please support me with your vote May 3.Cliff WeissAspen
