Mountain Mayhem: Celebrating Sari

by May Selby

Sari Tuschman of Southern California spent a benchmark birthday in Aspen from Oct. 6 to 10. To help her celebrate her big 4-0 in style, a handful of her friends flew in from around the country, along with her parents from Ohio and brother from Boulder.

As the brand director of AETHER Apparel, who has an outpost here in Aspen, a talented freelance writer, former magazine editor in chief and occasional guest host for Aspen 82, Sari's ties to the Roaring Fork Valley run deep. She especially felt the love all weekend with loved ones all around, up for anything and everything that popped up simultaneously or was painstakingly planned.

The festivities began with dinner at Jimmy's on Saturday night, where Ina Tuschman, the mother of the birthday girl, recited "the most amazing poem about my life — it was like five pages and it all rhymed," Sari chimed. On Sunday, everyone gathered at Home Team BBQ to watch football over fabulous barbecue fare.

On Monday night, she and her entourage were led to a secret cellar for a Champagne tasting with a sommelier, followed by dinner at Cache Cache. Rounding out the weekend was a cocktail party on Oct. 10, Sari's actual birthday, hosted by Sue Hostetler in her stunning home.

In reflecting upon the marathon birthday celebration, Sari noted, "We had all four seasons in one weekend — it snowed, it was hot, and we had the beautiful fall colors. We also hiked, did yoga and spent as much time fireside as possible."

Everything shaped into an ideal Aspen celebration for a beloved sister, daughter and friend.
