Mountain Mayhem: Another fabulous Food & Wine Classic

The 34th annual FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen may have been my favorite – and not just because 34’s my lucky number. Let’s start with the weather – brilliant blue skies and verdant hillsides set the backdrop, and while it may have hot, it was on brand for the Southern-themed dinners atop Aspen Mountain – Friday night’s Publisher’s Party, which channeled Charleston, South Carolina, and Saturday’s Blackberry Farm dinner with the celebrated resort’s chefs.

Food & Wine introduced its new editor Nilou Motamed whose debut issue is currently out, covering the best new chefs and more. With far too many parties, pop-ups and personalities to mention, I’ll simply list off some of my number ones: ACRA’s membership lunch at Hotel Jerome, Constellation Wines’ reception at Casa Tua, Swirl Girl Denver’s Yacht Rock at The Sky, Tim Hutchins’ pork party on Waters Ave., Dancing Bear’s rooftop kick-off with Aspen Magazine, Aspen Kitchen’s late night party with Aspen Peak, the Patron Party at Nello Alpine, and Infinite Monkey Theorem’s Wine at the Mine for the fifth time!

Bar Talk: sway Thai

sway opened its Aspen doors at the beginning of February with nine cocktails on the menu including some options not offered in Austin, such as a Thai coffee martini, fitting in with this mountain town’s espresso martini infatuation.
