From the Vault: Congrats, graduates!

One mounted b/w photograph of the class of 1905 at Aspen High School. There are nine young adults, posed on top of the Armory Hall with the Courthouse in the background. They are holding a sign that reads "'05". According to Board of Education publication the class of 1905 included: Lucile Fishel, Leopold Silver, Harry Ferris, Cecily Mulqueen, Mamie Bourg, Turner Sproule, Louisa Berg, Bessie Bradley, Nellie Byron, Helen Callahan, Helen Coombs, and Earl McPhee.- Not all are pictured here.

On May 30, 1905, The Aspen Democrat reported on proceedings leading up to graduation, noting that “another event of commencement week has gone to join the memorable occasions of the dim and misty past. Today the class of 1905 holds the center of the stage. But a week ago, it seems, since ’04 was the cynosure of all eyes. A day or two hence, the present Junior class will demand all our attention. In proof of their ability to fill the breach made by the graduation of a class they tendered to the Seniors one of the most gratifying of receptions last night at the Jerome hotel. At 8:00 o’clock the guests assembled and were immediately seated at an entrancingly decorated table, loaded with carnations, white and red, and served to ice cream and cake such as only Aspen affords. In the windows of the large hall room were banks of flowers and the room never appeared more charming. After refreshments the tables were pushed aside and the fun began. The young people seemed thoroughly inoculated with the spirit of frolic. Class yells resounded through the halls and happy laughter drowned the music of the orchestra. There were some striking evidences of the dressmaker’s art in mauve and cream and crimson. At 12:30 a tired but happy party of young people sought their rest in preparation for the fun at today’s Class Day exercises.” The image above shows members of Aspen High School’s graduating class of 1905, standing on the roof of Armory Hall. Not all are pictured, but the class consisted of Lucile Fishel, Leopold Silver, Harry Ferris, Cecily Mulqueen, Mamie Bourg, Turner Sproule, Louisa Berg, Bessie Bradley, Nellie Byron, Helen Callahan, Helen Coombs and Earl McPhee.
