Weekly Journal for the week of May 30

Let us not, in our white colonial arrogance wherein we as a culture look down on our “backward” 3rd World neighbors forget that India, the largest democracy in the world, has just elected its second female Prime minister (Americans, read President) in the last 30 years.

And while we are at it also recall that as I write both Indonesia and the Philipines both have sitting female Prime Ministers.

All these women were democratically elected in countries that we in the West repeat over and over are countries that tret women as second rate citizens with few rights and little respect.

So how is it then that THAT they elect women while America, Canada, Australia and almost every Euro nation (i.e. all the “superior” racist white ex-colonist countries) have never elected a female leader?

Ponder that.
