Weekly Journal for the week of July 25
Two pieces for you this week. First, a touch of bitter honor, and second a touch of real bitterness…
How many people from the Bush administration does it take to change a light bulb?
One to deny that a light bulb needs to be changed;
One to attack and question the patriotism of anyone who has
Questions about the light bulb;
One to blame the previous administration for the need of a new
One to arrange the invasion of a country rumored to have a
Secret stockpile of light bulbs;
One to get together with Vice President Cheney and figure out
How to pay Halliburton $63 million for a light bulb;
One to arrange a photo-op showing Bush changing the light bulb
While dressed in a flight suit and wrapped in an American flag;
And finally, one to explain to Bush the difference between
Screwing a light bulb and screwing the country.
Thirty years after the Vietnam War was won – according to Nixon and Kissinger – with Peace and Honor we are seeing a perfect example of how karma works, along with the lies of the American government, its umpteenth betrayal of Americans and its disregard for all people who are not Americans, especially those in the Third World – i.e. not white.
During the Vietnam War America sprayed 42 million liters of Agent Orange, a defoliant chemical, from airplanes and helicopters to destroy the jungles that kept the Viet Cong hidden.
In doing so the broke the Geneva Convention which prohibits just exactly that – the use of defoliants on plants during times of war. That is an international agreement signed by America and more recently broken in prisons in Guantanamo Bay, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Agent Orange did extraordinary amounts of damage to American soldiers and now we find there are some 3 MILLION victims of it in Vietnam.
Agent Orange has within it a very dangerous chemical called Digoxin and in areas of Vietnam where it was used recent studies have shown that TODAY 19 out of 20 people have 130 times the levels of digoxin in their bodies than do other Vietnamese who live in non-sprayed areas.
The original Agent Orange got into the soil, the water and the food chain, to be eaten and drunk by all those living anywhere nearby.
The effects have been monstrous. Miscarriages, cancer, deformed and brain damaged babies, and blind, broken bodies of new babies.
America delivered, with knowledge and full approval, a Weapon of Mass Destruction, which rained down on Vietnam for 8 years, killing, maiming, slowly destroying and mangling millions of innocent civilians.
And what was that about invading Iraq because Saddam had Weapons of Mass Destruction?
See, the Twin Towers… that is partly why it happened. Its called Karma, babe. What goes around comes around.
And so much for our horror at the killing of “innocent civilians” in the Towers, as if… AS IF we… yes WE would never, ever do such a monstrous thing.
You’re right. We don’t kill a measly 3,000… when we go on a military rampage we kill millions, then more millions, and destroy countries along the way.
As Marlon Brando said so poignantly in “Apocalypse Now”:
“The horror. The horror.”
