Weekend work set at Shale Bluffs

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN – The crews doing rockfall work along Highway 82 at Shale Bluffs will adjust their work schedule, working through the weekends on a project that is now expected to last into early December, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Rocksolid Solutions is the contractor on the job. Crews are knocking down loose rocks, inserting steel bars into the hillside to stabilize the rock face, clearing out accumulated rock debris and repairing the existing concrete barrier along the highway. The project also involves the installation of about 89,000 square feet of steel-cable netting to prevent loose shale from sloughing off onto the highway.

Crews will now work Wednesdays through Sundays in order to take advantage of a 7 a.m. start time on the weekends. During the work week, the right, upvalley lane is not closed during the peak commuting hours of 6 to 9 a.m. Work will also take place Mondays and Tuesdays as needed to ensure the project remains on schedule.

The estimated completion date for the project has been pushed back from Nov. 12 to Dec. 7 to accommodate extra material fabrication and installation, according to CDOT.
