We shall overcome

Dear Editor:

Kudos to Colorado’s own Greek sophists: Steve Skadron, Torre, Junee Kirk and Judy Brown for their efforts at saving Aspen’s historical character by questioning the shameful Historic Preservation Committee decision concerning Little Annie’s. It is these efforts at community which create the wonderful place we all call home.

Moreover, our community congratulates Marilyn Marks for her election transparency victory against ridiculous big government.

In the epic American struggle to eradicate slavery, Frederick Douglass in 1857 stated: “The whole history of the progress of human liberty shows that all concessions yet made … have been born of earnest struggle. If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightening. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. … Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.”
