We need Tim for mayor
Dear Editor:I hope that the city of Aspen residents will appreciate the importance of their votes this election. The outcome of this election will impact all of us in the Roaring Fork Valley. The most critical decision to be made is who the next mayor will be. Please choose carefully. Please understand that Tim Semrau will truly do the best job.I’ve know Tim for nearly seven years, and while we occasionally disagree on particular issues, in the end we usually see eye to eye. This happens only when people are truly respectful of each other, appreciate different points of view, and are willing and able to listen and hear what is being said. It’s hard work for most of us. It seems to come naturally to Tim Semrau. He is remarkably patient and thoughtful. He is not threatened by other points of view. He doesn’t have to focus on his next words while the other person is stating their position. He is honest. He has integrity. Most important, he does his homework. While many of us are busy formulating our emotional positions, Tim is hard at work gathering the facts. His steadfast focus on sorting through the actual records, analyzing the data, and looking at the long-term as well as the short-term consequences of realistic and attainable options is extraordinary. For a lot of us, it’s easier to take extreme positions that are emotionally appealing. Most of us don’t have the desire or ability to do the work to become fully cognizant of all of the complexity and history of our community issues. We can’t resist the appeal of extremism. This is why our founders created representative government. This is why we need Tim Semrau for mayor.Rebecca DoaneBrush Creek Village
