Water line breaks at S’mass mall

Charles Agar

A water line at the Snowmass Village mall broke Saturday morning, causing minor damage to a nearby store.

McCabe Mallin of Gene Taylor Sports said water was flooding the lot in front of the store when he arrived at work. He said water was gushing from an open pipe somewhere near the mall’s overhead walkway, sending water cascading onto the mall. “It was a shock,” Mallin said. “The place was flooding, and the water was coming under the wall of the shop.”

Mallin and his co-workers quickly moved bikes and ski equipment from the area; no merchandise was ruined, but there was some minor damage to the store. The Snowmass fire department and sewer officials responded, shutting off water to number of area shops while they located the leak. The leak was repaired, and it was business as usual by afternoon.
