Warming hut will be missed

Dear Editor:

For many years the local uphill community of Aspen, thanks to the Buttermilk Ski Patrol, has enjoyed the opportunity to take a moment to recover and warm up in the peaceful confines of the West Buttermilk Warming Hut, all for free. Thank you to the patrol for your endless upkeep and for allowing us the privilege of using the hut beyond the public use hours at Buttermilk.

It was with great sadness that this year my early morning hike culminated at the summit hut to a locked door. After a bit of inquiry, my presumption was sadly true. Have people abused the privilege? Unfortunately, yes. Another gem lost to lack of respect.

Thanks again to the Buttermilk Ski Patrol for the many wonderful memories.
