Voting to support nonprofits

Dear Editor:For the last five years, the Aspen Youth Center, along with many other nonprofits, has received funding from the Healthy Community Fund. The money has supported our day-to-day operations and allowed us to provide scholarships for countless youth. On Nov. 7, many of you will be going to the voting polls and will have to choose to vote yes or no on 1A – the Healthy Community Fund Tax. Here are some reasons why I hope you choose to vote yes.- This fund distributed over $913,000 to 42 valley-wide nonprofit agencies in 2006, at a time when many agencies were seeing cuts in funding.- The fund supports agencies who work to enhance the quality of life for seniors, victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, mental health care for individuals and families, and offers support and intervention to children and families, just to name a few.- The anticipated cost for homeowners is $5.27 per $100,000 of residential property value in 2007. This is a small price to ensure we live in a healthy community and to support the many nonprofit and health and human service agencies that do a great job each day, working with our families, citizens, seniors and children.Sarah VisnicExecutive director, Aspen Youth Center
