Vote yes on the Aspen Club

Dear Editor:

Much has been said regarding the redevelopment of the Aspen Club. We all know the facts by now regarding the fractional condos, the size of the project, traffic studies, carbon footprint, zoning change, etc. There is no need to continue to revisit everything that has been said over the last couple of years. My letter to you and our town is more of a personal view of how the Aspen Club benefits those of us who live here and depend on the Aspen Club’s continuation.

In a town of roughly 6,000 residents, I would guess that at least one-fourth to one-half of our town is either a member of the Aspen Club, a patient of the Sports Medicine facility, an employee, a patient of All Valley Women’s Care, a supporter or volunteer for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, an athlete in training, or a benefactor of one of the many fundraising events. The list could go on and on. This just names a few, along with the numerous visitors that come to Aspen each year and enjoy the facility for many other reasons.

The Aspen Club is many things to many people. It does not operate for tourism only like so many businesses in our town. The Aspen Club operates for the locals on a year-round basis, 365 days a year, and continues to be one of the largest employers in this valley. Locals, like myself, consider the Aspen Club as our second home fulfilling the need for stress relief, social interaction and maintaining good health and well-being.

Michael Fox continues to believe that this project is well worth his efforts, time and the hundreds of thousands of dollars that it has taken to come this far. I, for one, am thankful he has hung in there to see this through. The Aspen Club is a landmark for our town.

I urge the City Council to vote yes on this project. To say no to this development would be a very sad day for Aspen.

Lenny Allen
