Vote yes on lodging tax

Dear Editor:

I am writing to show my support for Referendum 2A, the Aspen lodging tax.

Aspen’s vitality depends on a strong tourism base. To remain competitive as a destination resort in the current economic environment we need to invest in a long-term, dynamic program to promote tourism. The Aspen lodging tax would generate approximately $1 million annually, which would bring the Aspen marketing budget in line with our mountain resort competitors.

As a reminder, Referendum 2A is a lodging tax only and will not affect sales or property taxes. Only guests staying in overnight accommodations will be charged the additional 1 percent lodging tax.

A YES vote on Referendum 2A supports an additional tax that will be dedicated to marketing and promoting Aspen. More marketing resources will provide for increased exposure in the marketplace and the ability to invest in innovative ideas to bring visitors to Aspen.

I urge Aspen voters to vote YES on Referendum 2A, Aspen Lodging Tax.
