Vote with the environment in mind

Dear Editor:

I want our leaders to know that here in Aspen, we support bold action on climate and energy, including a cap on carbon pollution.

In his speech on Earth Day, President Obama said that by increasing renewable energy and energy efficiency we will rebuild our economy, creating millions of jobs, reduce our addiction to foreign oil and most critically, reduce carbon in our atmosphere responsible for melting the glaciers and poles. If America leads the world will follow. In order for us to lead we need to put a cap on carbon.

Capping carbon pollution will ignite the transition to clean energy, end our dependence on dirty fossil fuels, and put America on a path toward economic recovery, creating a win-win-win scenario.

A cap on carbon pollution will create tens of thousands of good-paying American jobs that can’t be shipped overseas.

Consumers and businesses will benefit from stable energy prices, and with greater energy efficiency, we can get more from the energy we have, which will mean lower electricity bills.

Now is the time for action. The economy can’t wait. The climate crisis can’t wait.

On May 5 please vote for candidates most committed to helping Gov. Ritter and President Obama put a cap on carbon, creating a new energy economy!
