Vote now for Jack
October 28, 2010
Today I voted for Jack Johnson for county commissioner, although we have taken, and continue to take, opposite stands on some very important issues.
So why am I supporting Jack for county commissioner? Because Jack is the right candidate for this job.
Jack has tackled local and county issues for years, unlike his opponent, who seems to have all of a sudden decided to run for pubic office. Jack will not need to go through a “learning curve” to understand Pitkin County’s challenges.
He has campaigned persistently for affordable housing, has worked diligently to preserve the full range of qualities that define our valley (the urban, the rural and the wilderness), and “gets it” when it comes to conservation. I believe Jack will be relentless, but realistic, in his efforts to do what he can to help Pitkin County’s economic future.
Finally, I would like to tell those of you who joke about Jack’s knitting that Jack is in good company. Rosie Grier, an ex-L.A. Rams defensive linemen and one of the Fearsome Foursome, needlepoints. There are a lot of men and women in this valley who make their living as craftsmen and artists, and your jokes and innuendoes are a slap in the face to all of them.
