Vote green

Dear Editor:A vote for Referendum 1A will establish an energy smart loan program for energy efficiency and energy renewable projects. This voluntary program will enable property owners to take advantage of affordable, long-term financing and, depending on the extent of the individual project, an immediate energy cost offset and savings on their property’s utility bills. When every dollar saved in these tough times is so important, here is a great opportunity for your vote to make a difference. Whether you take advantage of this program or not, your vote will allow others to. In the big picture, we will all be helping to reduce our greenhouse emissions and address global warming. Locally, it will help us meet our community goals in reducing our carbon footprint, provide a resource for those interested in making improvements to their home and stimulate our economy by creating green jobs. Remember, this election is by mail-in ballot only. Drop off your ballot at the clerk’s office or mail it in with 61-cent stamp. Please contact the Pitkin County Clerk & Recorder’s Office at 429-2713 if you have any questions regarding the mail-in ballot.George NewmanEmma
