Vote Curry

Dear Editor:

I recently had the pleasure of meeting our state representative, Kathleen Curry, at a mountain biking event near Buena Vista. She was there to support her son in the race, and in between laps I had the chance to really get a sense of the person behind the title. I was impressed with her integrity, along with her legislative experience and in-depth knowledge of water issues that concern all of us on the Western Slope.

I knew she was an incumbent Democrat, but was surprised to hear that she is now running as an Independent. Like a lot of people these days, I’m fed up with both parties and really feel that unless voters support the election of independent, third-party candidates, our very democracy and freedoms are at stake. I asked Kathleen why she chose to leave the warm and cushy fold of the Dems to go it alone, and basically she feels the same way. Our two-party system has become too big and corrupt, on both sides.

Kathleen also told me that she wasn’t quite prepared for the orchestrated attacks now coming from both parties, along with the fact that if you’re an “Independent” candidate, the rules and fundraising capabilities are stacked against you. Maybe that’s why, to my knowledge, an Independent, write-in candidate has never won in Colorado.

Well, folks, we need to change that in this election. Make some history. Set some new precedents by electing experienced candidates who are independent and not controlled by the corrupt machine of party politics. No excuses. Get out there and vote! Mark the box and write in Kathleen Curry for State Representative, District 61.
