Volunteers needed for work on Skyline Ridge Trail on Tuesday

Volunteers are needed this and next Tuesday for a reroute of a short section of the Skyline Ridge Trail at Sky Mountain Park.

About 965 feet of the trail will be rerouted on the ridge trail on the westerly side, near the junction of Viewline and Deadline.

Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers, Roaring Fork Mountain Bike Association and Pitkin County Open Space and Trails are organizing the project. Volunteers can sign up for one night or both by going to http://www.rfov.org.

“The original user-created trail ran directly on the ridgeline and, in some areas, this became too steep and suffered from erosion damage,” according to the Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers website. “Although RFOV worked to improve the trail in 2012, we were unable to address this section at the time.”

Volunteers will meet at the Viewline Trailhead at 4 p.m. or join when they can after their day jobs. They will work until dusk. Snacks, beverages and dinner will be provided.
