Volunteer with RESPONSE

Dear Editor:

If you have ever thought of becoming a volunteer advocate with RESPONSE, Help for survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, now is the time. Free, 30-hour training begins Oct. 2. Develop the skills, such as active listening, that will enable you to truly support survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault.

You might think that this service couldn’t be needed in Aspen. Each year over 300 survivors and their families come to RESPONSE for assistance each year. Our advocates take turns being on call in order to provide assistance such as helping someone develop a safety plan, accompany a rape victim to the hospital, assist an abused person obtain a restraining order and most importantly, listen.

You will meet some of the greatest individuals in our community, those who make Aspen the special community that it is.

For information, call RESPONSE at 920-5357.
