Violet ‘Patsy’ Forbes

Former Aspenite Violet "Patsy" Forbes died Jan. 2.

Violet “Patsy” Forbes died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Monday, Jan. 2.Born in Boston, she moved to Aspen in 1957. She raised her four children there. She started and ran the Patsy Forbes Preschool, co-founded the Aspen Community School, and served on the board of Colorado Rocky Mountain School. She moved to Boulder in 1980 where she received a master’s degree in special education and taught in local schools.

She is survived by her children: A.O. Forbes of Carbondale, Sarah Peterson of Boulder and Baja, Erica Shafroth of Boulder and Juliana Forbes of Boulder, in addition to 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous friends and relations. She was loved and revered for her vitality, humor, passion and courage. In her memory, please take care, and “love and be loved in return.”The family plans to celebrate her life in the spring, on or around her birthday, April 3.
