Video shows how a Colorado skier escaped an avalanche
The Denver Post
Video captured a skier’s point-of-view while being caught in a small avalanche in the Vail and Summit County zone.
The Colorado Avalanche Information Center shared the video, noting some of the skiers’ actions that the center claimed saved their lives.
Two skiers were caught in a large, soft-slab avalanche on a north-facing, near-treeline slope, the information center said, when they triggered the slide.
“The skier in the video did two things that decreased his odds of injury and burial,” the video said. “He kept his hands out of his pole straps before the run. He kept his feet downhill once caught.”
