Inspired by the chefs’ ski races of the 1980s, Viceroy Snowmass and As One Cru Wines have partnered to host the inaugural Cru Cup from April 10-12.

The event will benefit the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club as well as the Aspen Hope Center, notably to support local mental health initiatives within the hospitality industry.

“We are thrilled to be part of bringing this legendary event back to life at Viceroy Snowmass,” said Matt Zubrod, culinary director for Viceroy Snowmass, in a news release. “The Cru Cup combines the best of our industry — great food, fun competition, and a shared commitment to supporting important causes like mental health in the hospitality community. It’s an honor to work with such an incredible group of professionals for a weekend that celebrates food, wine, and skiing.”

Event highlights include the appearance of Bernard Guillas, Maitre Cuisinier de France — he is the former executive chef of the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, the Shores Restaurant, and the landmark AAA 4-diamond Marine Room restaurant in La Jolla — who will guide attendees through the weekend’s ski and snowboard activities.

The event will also feature a stellar lineup of culinary and beverage talent, including Zubrod and many other local and national chefs, sommeliers, and bartenders.

Additionally, they partnered with Aspen Islanders, who will support the event by donating sunscreen for all participants, ensuring that everyone stays protected from the sun while enjoying the slopes.

The weekend kicks off on Thursday, April 10, with a Welcome & Cocktail Competition at Toro, a Latin-inspired dining venue at Viceroy Snowmass. Friday’s activities include the official race in Snowmass, après-ski festivities, and a gala dinner featuring stations hosted by chefs paired with sommeliers or winemakers. The weekend concludes on Saturday, April 12, with breakfast and leisure skiing.
