Very different versions of art

Dear Editor:I’m sorry, but I have to respond to an article in your May 16 issue, in which my friend Sgt. Bill Linn compared another, dear departed friend, the irreplaceable Tom Benton, to someone named Magnuson (“Magnuson is up for a promotion”).Please Bill, let us not do such a disservice to the memory of such a fine person and truly talented artist. Tom was a part of Aspen, and as interesting and compassionate as they come (did I mention honest?). I currently own a number of Tom’s works, which I am very proud to have. I am not looking for a copy of “Hole” to add to my collection, and if this guy Magnuson is an example of the “new” Aspen, I am reassured about my decision to move out of the valley and keep my children away from his “artistic” statement.Geoffrey WhitneyBasalt
