Vacation renters are the little guys

Dear Editor:

“Bandit” vacation rentals? When you have one unit to rent, you are defined as a bandit. If you have hundreds, you are not a bandit. The city’s goal is unambiguous. Get into bed with the Aspen Skiing Co. and the large operators to eliminate the modestly priced units in town. The city is apparently willing to help crush the little guys. This was successfully done in Telluride.

The city government whines about the absence of modestly priced accommodations while carefully eliminating them. Could it be more obvious? Empty neighborhoods are now a good thing?

P.S.: When you are in power, you refer to the competition as bandits. It did not work for Gen. Chiang Kai-shek, but it will probably work for the local warlords!
