Updike as city planner?
Dear Editor:
It’s been interesting to watch the valley struggle with making a place that is affordable for anyone but the super-rich. For an interesting point of view that relates to Aspen and Snowmass, I would suggest reading John Updike’s poem “Slum Lords.” I don’t know that Updike qualifies as a city planner, but he states the following about the so-called “super-rich”: “Don’t let them in. Their riches form a kind of poverty.”
