Two rollover crashes, two DUIs

Two rollover accidents within a half-hour of each other early Monday morning resulted in DUI charges for the drivers, law enforcement officials said.

The first crash occurred on Highway 82 just west of Harmony Road and was reported to Pitkin County authorities at 1:21 a.m., Pitkin County sheriff’s Deputy Alex Burchetta said.

Colorado State Patrol responded and found a white Cadillac SUV on its roof in the median, said Trooper Nate Reid, a spokesman. The driver, Peter Shearin, 37, of Carbdondale, was charged with DUI and careless driving, he said. No other details were available.

The next call came in at 1:50 a.m. about a rollover on McLain Flats Road near W/J Ranch, Burchetta said. A deputy who was helping with the other rollover responded and found Carson Kennedy, 33, of Basalt, walking by himself along McLain Flats, he said.

The car looked like it had rolled but was on its wheels, Burchetta said. Kennedy admitted to driving it and admitted to drinking, he said. He failed sobriety tests and was charged with DUI and careless driving.
