Two killed in fiery truck crash ID’d
Aspen, CO Colorado
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. ” Two people who were killed when a tractor-trailer rig crashed and exploded on Interstate 70 last week have been identified as driver Peter Baumann of Aurora and a passenger, Yvette Anderson of Denver.
Police believe Baumann fell asleep at the wheel and the truck drifted into the right-side guardrail and slammed into an overpass, knocking out a support pillar and bursting into flames.
An 11-mile section I-70 was closed for hours.
The overpass is expected to remain closed until a $320,000 repair is completed in late September.
Police said the truck, carrying a form of bleach and other cargo, was owned by Utah-based DATS Trucking Inc.
The Mesa County coroner said Baumann, 35, and Anderson, 33, both died of multiple blunt-force injuries and also suffered burns.
