Two die in head-on wreck on I-70

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. ” Two people are dead after a crash involving two vehicles ” one traveling in the wrong direction ” Monday on Interstate 70 in Grand Junction.

The woman behind the wheel of a Dodge Caravan, which entered eastbound I-70 traveling the wrong way, died Monday at about 5:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Grand Junction police confirmed Tuesday.

The woman, whose identity was not confirmed, was not a resident of the area, said Grand Junction Officer T.J. Rix.

The Caravan collided head-on with an eastbound Chevrolet Monte Carlo, killing the driver of that vehicle. A 5-month-old boy who was riding in the Monte Carlo suffered a head injury and remains in intensive care at St. Mary’s.

The accident occurred at about 1:20 p.m. Monday, after the Caravan traveled the wrong way through a roundabout and drove onto the interstate via an exit ramp.
