Travel Channel show features Glenwood park Wednesday

Staff report

Thanks to the return of your favorite scientists, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is about to get some national exposure.

Former “Mythbusters” hosts Kari Byron and Tory Belleci have a new Travel Channel show, “Thrill Factor,” in which they dive into “the world of thrill rides, waterslides and other heart-pumping experiences,” according to the show’s website. The Adventure Park will be featured on an episode called “Kari Has No Sense,” which airs at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

In the episode, which was filmed in June, Belleci experiments with Byron’s senses as she rides the Glenwood Canyon Flyer, which swings riders over a 1,300-foot cliff. Her vision and hearing were blocked, testing how sight and sounds add to the thrills of a ride.

During filming, Belleci and Byron were definitely not all business. In addition to riding the Glenwood Canyon Flyer, they rode the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster, posed for photos and signed lots of autographs.

“It was a blast,” said Nancy Heard, general manager at the park. “A lot of people know Kari and Tory from ‘Mythbusters,’ so they actually were recognized. They were really gracious to our guests. I spent the entire day with them, and I really enjoyed the day.”

The channel had prior experience with Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park when it visited in 2011 to film an episode of “Bert the Conqueror.”

“They’re great to work with,” Heard said.

“Thrill Factor” will have a similar vibe to “Mythbusters,” where science and fun collide. “Thrill Factor” features an exploration of the engineering, physics and biomechanics that explain why the featured rides get your adrenaline pumping. Each episode offers a different thrill, and Byron and Belleci “use themselves as guinea pigs, strapping in to these fast and frightening rides to collect data about the science of fun.”
