BASALT – The Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to accept the town manager’s recommendation to hire Greg Knott as police chief.
Town Manager Mike Scanlon favored Knott after a lengthy interview process involving three advisory panels comprising town residents, police chiefs and town-government staff. Scanlon told the council that negotiations with Knott on terms of employment were progressing. The position pays between $89,200 and $124,500.
As of Thursday afternoon, there was no announcement that Knott had accepted the offer.
Knott is currently a senior sergeant with the Carbondale Police Department, and he is serving as Basalt’s interim chief two days per week. Scanlon said Knott will continue in the interim position and take over full time in mid-May, assuming that he accepts the job.
