Top-notch response eases the pain

Dear Editor:

Thank you, thank you to ski patrol, ambulance, Aspen Valley Hospital staff, nurses and doc.

You all did a remarkable job.

On April Fools’ Day, “Gorp,” you and your patrol crew did a superb job getting me off Aspen Mountain. It was a very, very difficult extraction, in rotten conditions, and you got me down beautifully. I don’t even remember much pain, even though my femur was broken clean through. Thank you, Jim Hearn, Art Nerbonne, Dan Roman, and Steve “Chopper” Rohen. Thank you.

Alex and your partner, you two made me as comfortable in the “bus” as could have been possible. Transfers in and out were very smooth, and your attentiveness even after arrival at the hospital was reassuring and very welcomed. Thank you.

You nurses at AVH cared for me superbly, as did all the physical therapists, in and out of the hospital. Jean, Terry, and Ray, you three in particular were marvelous, responsive, professional, and helped me immensely. Jan, I certainly appreciate all you and your staff did and have continued to do. Special thanks to you, personally, for your hints and extraordinary service. Lisa Pranno, bravo, your help is invaluable. Thank you.

Dr. Pevny, you must be very good at this. Even with a very large incision with scar the length of a railroad siding, insertion of enough hardware to set off airport alarms, and fairly invasive procedure, I have had very little pain and am healing beautifully. Your manner, concern, and compassion are exemplary. I thank you very much.

Barbara, Rachel, and Sam, you are family and truly amazing. You have been caring, supportive, loving … way beyond the call of duty. Thank you; I could not be healing as I am without you. I love you.

Once more … thank you.

Mark Schmidt
