Top 10 reasons to vote early

Dear Editor:

You’ve heard it before, but I’m tellin’ ya again…this is an exceptionally long ballot. Depending on which county of the Roaring Fork Valley you live in, there may be as many as 51 questions for you to vote on. Even though you may be intending to vote for only a few of those questions or candidates, others will be considering them all (while you wait in line).

So please ponder the following top 10 reasons to vote early, before the Election Day bedlam:

10. You can’t be away from work waiting in line for several hours. With or without pay.

9. You are retired from work, but you have a tee time.

8. You have to pick the kids up after school and can’t leave them standing in the rain. (Even though YOU have been.)

7. You are young and don’t have the patience to wait too long.

6. You are old and don’t have the stamina to wait too long.

5. You’ve prepared a “cheat sheet” and others, whom you hate, haven’t.

4. You know that all over the U.S., any number of counties anticipate running out of ballots or having problems with machines.

3. You don’t want to spend 59 cents to mail in the ballot.

2. There are no refreshments.

1. There is no porta-potty.

You have until this Friday. Vote in Pitkin County at the courthouse annex (Monday-Wednesday, 8:30-4:30; Thursday and Friday, 8:30-6); in Eagle County at the El Jebel Community Center (Monday-Friday, 8-5); in Garfield County either at the courthouse in Glenwood Springs (Monday-Thursday 8:30-7; Friday, 8:30-5) or the Human Services building in Rifle (Monday-Friday, 8:30-5).

Please don’t risk losing your vote or your temper in this important election. And did I mention there is no porta-potty?
