Too much work for one person?
Andy Stone’s comments about how the Aspen Art Museum managed got my attention (“Working three jobs for a six-figure income. Hey, charity don’t come cheap,” opinion, Sept. 26, The Aspen Times).
His words were in response to the article showing local salary compensation. Wow, I wouldn’t want my teacher’s retirement fund to be managed by one and the same person who chooses the stocks, manages the facility and also sits on the board while selecting board members. I would not work with an architect who then needs to build his design with his own hands. I would not hire a production artist to create concept and the design. How did one person become CEO, chief curator and director?
The job of curator alone requires extreme sensitivity to the pluralistic modern art world with its many concerns as vanguard. How does Ms. Zuckerman Jacobson do it? Would the stress of fundraising, being CEO and curator lead to decisions against what the Aspen community needs and wants? Can Ms. Zuckerman Jacobson find other people to work with her so her vision and job load could be more shared?
