To the Editor of the Times

ASPEN, COLO., April 19, 1881.

To the Editor of the Times :

Allow me space in your journal to say a word to the miner, prospector and merchant and every one interested in the future of Aspen and also of Pitkin county. You now have with you a medium by which you can send abroad everything pertaining to your camp. Few know the difficulites to overcome in the starting of a newspaper even where all transportation of material is done by steam. If there are difficulites then, how many more there are to be contended with when transportation is in winter and over mountain ranges almost eternally covered with snow. The proprietors of THE TIMES are not men who say we are going to do such and such things and never do it, but they said they were going to put a paper in at Aspen, and they have done it. Dollars and cents and hard labor it has taken to accomplish this, and I now ask every one in Pitkin county if they are not worthy of your support, in every way in which you can lend a helping hand. Be liberal in your

subscriptions and your advertisements; for there is where a paper derives its income. By liberal advertising you show to everyone where the paper circulates that we have a live and thrifty camp, and by subscribing for many copies of the paper and sending it to friends and acquaintances in other parts of Colorado and the state you disseminate news regarding your mines and of your town to a far greater extent than just that same number of even well written letters. And now let us all extend to THE ASPEN TIMES such encouragement and support as only a first-class mining camp can give, and I’ll warrant, from an acquaintance with the proprietors, who are practical newspaper men, and from an examination of the type, press and material, which is all new, that in THE TIMES Aspen will have a paper of which she may justly be proud. JUSTICE.
