Tired of the crap
In response to Roger Marolt’s column (“No pile left behind,” Dec. 10, 2010, The Aspen Times), I couldn’t agree more about the dog poop problem.
I have no idea why people go through all the trouble to bag it, then leave it on the side of the trial. As a regular Hunter Creek/Smuggler hiker, I see bags left every night. Personally I think the environment is much better off kicking the poop off the sides of the trail and letting it do its thing, rather than bagging it, putting it in a trash can and sending a big truck to haul it to the dump.
Town parks and private back yards are a whole different matter than miles up a trail. I also believe that if the county or city are going to hire more people for this problem they should pick it up. If we the taxpayers are going to pay more people to deal with this problem besides handing out tickets, they also need to get the poop off the trail.
