Times sale to Swift finalized this week

Aspen Times Staff Report

The sale of The Aspen Times to Swift Newspapers is now official.

Following several days of meetings and negotiations, the final agreements were signed and ownership of The Aspen Times and the Glenwood Independent was officially transferred to Swift on Dec. 1.

Although the agreement between Full Court Press, the previous owner of the papers, and Swift was announced on Nov. 11, a large number of legal details and a mountain of paperwork had to be dealt with before the sale actually took place.

Aspen Times Editor Andy Stone, who will be continuing to work with the paper, said, “I am indescribably delighted that the insanity of the past couple of weeks of legal and business negotiations is finished. Now I can get back to running a newspaper.”

Mitch Bettis, the new publisher of the Times, said, “I’m looking forward to moving ahead with the Times. I took this job because I thought the Times was a great newspaper – and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that the only changes are improvements. This is where the fun begins.”
