Time to start thinking about college

ASPEN ” One of the valley’s former high school college counselors has gone into private consulting practice.

Carolyn Williams will be offering two free workshops this fall aimed at helping parents and students navigate the college application process.

Williams, formerly of Colorado Rocky Mountain School and one of the organizers of recent Western Slope college fairs, will hold the first workshop, “Helping Your Student Through The College Process,” from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Pitkin County Library in Aspen. The workshop is to provide parents with ideas on how to help students, starting as early as the ninth grade.

The second workshop, “Finding a College You Can Afford,” will be from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Pitkin County Library. The workshop is designed to help families with strategies to find a college that is appropriate, and figure out how to pay for it.
