Time to let go

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:To answer Mr. Jan Girardot’s letter that the $900,000 is a mere drop in the bucket toward the RFTA expenses: That is true, but it is not a drop in the bucket for the building of trails.Plus, Mr. Girardot should explain to the public that the reason RFTA went to the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) plan instead of trains for the next 20 years is the fact that to purchase equipment, build the new trails and maintain the rail system for 30 years would cost $800 million. Now you’re talking drops in the bucket.Mr. Girardot and his group have done a great job in promoting the Model Train Museum in Glenwood Springs and lobbying RFTA to keep the tracks in place, but it is time to let go and let the general public enjoy their transportation corridor.Don “Hooner” GillespieDon KnechtelPhil LongGlenwood Springs
